During the month of March the Battalion participated in Operation SCOTLAND II under the operational control of the 4th Marines in northern Quang Tri Province. From March 4, Company G occupied a defensive positon on Hill 37, 3 kilometers northeast of Camp Carroll on the high ground overlooking Route 9 in Cam Lo District.
On March 19, while in his defensive position, PFC Jody Cron was killed by fragmentation wounds from a hostile grenade thrown near his position.
