John A. MURPHY Age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on February 7, 2006 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Seattle on June 17, 1921 to William and M. Agnes Murphy. John Graduated from West Seattle High School and received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Washington. He served as a Navy lieutenant during WWII. He began his nearly 44 year career with Boeing in 1939, where he worked on the B-29 program and played a significant role in the engineering development of the B-52 and Minuteman programs. He was also an avid fisherman, a passion he inherited from his father. In addition, he was a member of the Mountaineers, and felt fortunate to have climbed Mt. St. Helens the year before its eruption in 1980. After his retirement from Boeing in 1983 he blossomed into a master gardener, and refined his already keen bird-watching skills. He is survived by Rosemary Murphy, his wife of over 60 years; daughter, Maureen Kirk (Larry); sons, Terry (Rosalie D'Amico), Kevin (Karen Freeman) and Tim (Lynda Bunting); grandsons, Brian Kirk and Frederick John Murphy; and sister, Cathy MacDonald. He was preceded in death by his son, Lee; his brother, Joe; and sister, Betty Anne. He was a loving, wonderful and supportive father to all his children, always showing a strong interest in their activities and personal development. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 11th, at 12 Noon at Blessed Sacrament Church, Seattle. Interment Holyrood Cemetery. Hoffner Fisher & Harvey
