He was born Aug. 29, 1925 in Alba and lived most of his life there. Mr. Alexander served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a painter by profession. He had been a minister of Wieland Church of Christ for the past 40 years.
Previous to his years at Wieland, Mr. Alexander had preached at Salem, Colony and Cumby after beginning his preaching career at Alba Church of Christ in 1959.
Survivinfgare his wife of 59 years, Ruth Bailey Alexander of Alba; one son and daughter-in-law, Marlon and Deanna Alexander of Alba; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Sam Fazel of Alba and Denise and Garry Clanton of Galveston; a sister, Doris Robinson of Fort Worth; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and extended family of the Wieland Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Annie Pope Alexander; five brothers; five sisters; and a grandson, Clay Clanton.
Pallbearers are Grady Sheperd, Larry Terry, Thomas Patterson, Billy Hooten, Charlie Walker Jr. and Lennon Sandlin. Honorary pallbearers are Clyde Terry, Doyle Woodall and men of the Wieland congregation.
Memorials may be made to East Texas Hospice.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home in Alba.
