Stella R. Tirabassi, former owner of Stella's Tots to Teens, a clothing store, died Sunday in her home under the care of her sister, Antoinette, and Niagara Hospice after a long illness. She was 89.
Born in the Bronx, she graduated from Niagara Falls High School and attended Niagara University.
She and her nephew, George, were president and vice president, respectively, of Stella's Tots to Teens in Niagara Falls from 1951 until her retirement in 1998.
She was a member and former president of the Porta-Niagara Girls Club and Zonta Club, both in Niagara Falls. She was also the first female board member of the Niagara Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.
Miss Tirabassi also was a former president of the Summit Park Mall Association and a member of the board of the New York State Council of Retail Merchants.
She had been a volunteer for the United Givers Fund, the Niagara University Ball Committee, the Festival of Lights and the St. Francis Guild of Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
She also ran classes in her store for Lewiston-Porter School District students who were interested in the retail business. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading and visiting the sick.
In addition to her sister, she is survived by a brother, Alfred of Riverside, Calif.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 218 Hinman St., after prayers at 9 in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Town of Niagara.
Private entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
