ROCKTON - Carl A. Bates, a resident of this area all his life. died this morning in Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, Md. He and Mrs. Bates were in Washington, D.C., to attend the wedding of their grandson, Lt. David Bloom.
Mr. Bates was born Aug. 29, 1893, in Rockton, the son of Charles and Lydia Boswell Bates. He married Vera Carpenter in September, 1917. Mr. Bates was a farmer and a member of the Shirlnd Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife; thee sons, Charles of Washington, D.C., John and Roger of Rockton; three daughters, Mrs. Norma Bloom, Mrs. Lois Peterson, and Mrs. Rose Lovejoy, all of Rockton; 22 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Mary Geddes of Rockton.
Services will be held either Monday or Tuesday from the Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer Central Chapel, Beloit. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
