Albert Arthur Sherman, 85, of The Villages, FL, passed peacefully from this life Monday, September 21, 2015. Born in American Falls, Idaho he was the son of the late James and Mary Ethel (Allen) Sherman. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Myrle Prather and Leila Taggart. Albert joined the US Navy as a seaman recruit and rose through the ranks (Mustang) to LT. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired in 1970 to Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Following his military career of 22 years he entered the University of Rhode Island. Albert graduated Cum Laude in two years. He taught school briefly, then pursued his BA degree as Real Estate Agent and Broker for the Banks. Later he became General Manager of Sea Boats Tug and Barge Co. Albert was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island. Albert was active in the Town of Portsmouth serving on the School Board, Town Council and the BoD of the Portsmouth Senior Center and Manor House. Albert was active in his church and the Parochial schools attended by his children. Albert retired to Florida in 1988 to Silver Springs Shores where he was a Ranger and Starter at the golf course till moving to The Villages in 1997. He was active in planning activities and playing golf with his san Antonia Villa neighbors. In 2012 The Shermans celebrated their 50th Anniversary at their new home at Freedom Pointe. He was dedicated to his service in the US Navy and especially to his family. He leaves his loving wife Cathy, daughter Margaret Luppino of Boca Raton, FL, son James Sherman of Rockledge, FL and two grandchildren, Angel Sikes and Connor Sherman also step-grandsons, Jonathan Sikes and Shaemus McDaniels. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Buffalo Scholarship Foundation, The Villages, FL or Operation Clean Start for Veterans (352) 361-8415.
