LAS VEGAS – Opal Marie Rieck, 89, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, in Las Vegas.
Opal was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Berlin Center, to parents Cyrus and Theo (Catell) Smith.
She graduated from Berlin High School in 1942 and from the Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing three years later in 1945.
Opal married Howard Rieck on July 4, 1948, and they had one son, Kim.
Opal worked for the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company and its successors as a registered nurse for more than 30 years. She was an avid reader and knitter up until the very end.
She is survived by her son, Kim of Las Vegas; and granddaughters, Rebecca and Leslie, both of Columbus.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Howard, who died in 2007; and her daughter-in-law, Marianne Rieck.
A celebration of Opal’s life will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Boardman, 7410 South Ave., Boardman, OH 44512.
