Elizabeth Bender was the second of ten children born to Samuel Bender (1790-1839) and Hannah Lyman (born 22 Sept 1799 Buffalo Valley, Union Co., PA). Samuel Bender was one of nine children born to Mt.Joy, Lancaster County, PA blacksmith-wagon maker Johan Jacob "Grandfather" Bender (1748-1803) and his wife Mary (maiden name unknown). A miller by trade, Samuel married Hannah in 1816 and in 1820 and 1830 they lived in Marlboro Twp, Stark Co OH. See ancestry.com for Mark Painter's genealogy of the Bender Painter family.
