Iris L. Garver was born December 23, 1937 in Vergennes, the daughter of Everett Steele and Ruby (White) Steele. Her surviving siblings include Wanda Herd and Sharon Steele, both of Murphysboro; Doris Jane Vegas of California; Mary Throop of Chester; and John Wayne Steele of Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Hobert Steele.

Iris married Wally Garver on July 3, 1959. Wally passed away November 10, 1994. Her surviving children include Roger L. Garver and fiancee, Meredith Matzig; Trena J. Owens of Kansas City, MO; Kathy A. Johnson of Elkville; and Robin L. Garver Taylor(?) of Murphysboro.

Mrs. Garver was a retired housekeeper and was a member of Berean Christian Church of Murphysboro.

Mrs. Garver died at the age of 73 at her Murphysboro home on Sunday, September 18, 2011. Her funeral service was held in Wilson's Funeral Home (Ava). Rev. Mark Goins officiated. Memorials were to be made to Relay for Life or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
