Shirley Irene (Petrie) Felter, 85, passed away September 12, 2015 at Harlingen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
Shirley was born December 7, 1928 in Pueblo, CO to Albert and Dorothy (Young) Petrie. She married Robert “Bob” Felter on January 5, 1947.
Shirley was a housewife and co-owner of Lucky Lodge in South Fork, CO, then finally retiring in Yuma, AZ for 18 years before moving to Port Isabel, TX in 2005. Both Robert and Shirley always consider Lamar home no matter where they moved to. She was raised in the Methodist Church in Lamar until after marriage, and then became a member of the First Baptist Church in Lamar.
Shirley loved to swim and water ski and always had some kind of painting or craft project going. As a kid, I remember her sewing and making a lot of our clothes or knitting something.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Mark) Oberwortmann; ten grandchildren, one step grandson, eighteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey and Bobby; one brother, Tommy (Norma); one sister by marriage, Shirley Felter Coen (Cleo); and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Mike, daughter, Julie; both parents, two brother, and both of Robert’s parents.
A graveside service will be held September 25, 2015, at 9:30 AM, at Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar, CO with Steve Knobbe from the First Baptist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to any hospice care of choice.
