Viola Bontrager died peacefully Sept. 23, 2015, at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. She was born June 24, 1926, in Partridge, to Heinrich (Henry) and Milly Olga (Massoni) Koestel.
She married Abe Bontrager on June 3, 1945, and they lived around and in Partridge until 2007, when they moved to Mennonite Manor. Abe died July 20, 2011, and Viola moved to Wesley Towers. Viola had several part-time jobs, including her work for Partridge Grade School and her favorite, selling Avon. Viola was a member of Partridge Community Church.
She is survived by: her daughters, Phyllis (Larry) Peer of Largo, Fla., and Donna (Maurice) Bastion of Hutchinson; two grandsons, Michael (Arden) Bastion and Jared Bastion of Hutchinson; a granddaughter, Julie Raschka of Tirana, Albania; two great-granddaughters, Madeleine Bastion and Beatrice Raschka; three great-grandsons, Teige Bastion, Dorran Bastion, and Benedict Raschka; three step great-granddaughters, Katelyn Bigler, Kylee Jarrett, and Mauryn Kennedy; two sisters, Ethel Krug of South Hutchinson and Evelyn Myers of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by: her parents; four brothers, infant Galen, Clifford, Robert, and Albert; and four sisters, Mabel Ball, Irene Hirst, Annabell Conrad, and Dorothy Covert.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend R. Samuel Askew presiding. Burial will follow in Partridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be given to the church or Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
