John Wesley Hammerton died of pneumonia Sunday at Beatty Memorial hospital in Westville. He had been ailing for the past six years. He was born April 5, 1870, in Illinois.
He had resided in the Valparaiso area for about eight years and for a time was employed at the Continental-Diamond Fibre division of the Budd Company, Inc. He also formerly farmed in the Tefft and Wheatfield area.
Surviving are the following daughters: Mrs. Ethel Nelson of Tefft; Mrs. Alice Stokke, San Pierre; and Mrs. Edith Shroyer of Napa, Calif.; also, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Lucille Witham of Parr, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Tefft Methodist church with the Rev. Harold Wright in charge. Burial will be in the San Pierre cemetery.
