The Ezekiel Cheever school was opened Monday, October 11 [1897]. About 230 pupils are accommodated there.
The superintendent has appointed the following named persons as teachers, and the committee recommended the salary attached to each name as read:....

In 1917, Alfred Sewell Kedzie, age 51, was a clerk, who also had experience teaching. He was 5-3", and weighed 150 pounds. He was married and his wife was his only dependent. He could ride a horse, handle a team, and was a good swimmer. (Connecticut Military Census, 1917, on-line).
