Richard Richardson Baskin, Sr., 83, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died Monday, August 25, 2003, at Hunter Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 17, 1920, in Bishopville, South Carolina, Dick was the son of the late John Sewanee Baskin, Sr. and Mary Richardson Briggs Baskin.
Mr Baskin was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force in Italy. He graduated from Clemson University in 1948 with a degree in Dairy Science, retiring from Sealtest Foods in 1983.
Services for Mr. Baskin will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2003, at McEwen Derita Chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West in Charlotte, North Carolina. The family will receive friends 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Richardson Baskin, Jr., brothers, Col. John Sewanee “Jack” Baskin, Jr., Edward Briggs “Bubba” Baskin, Sr., Capt. Thomas Crosswell Baskin, Sr., and sister, Anne Sinkler Baskin LaBree Cooper Beattie.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Carrie Leila Hancock Baskin; daughters, Norvelle Anne Baskin Robinette, Leila Baskin Hagler (Derrel), and Jean Smith and companion, Dianne Floyd; daughter-in-law, Sabra Baskin; sister, Norvelle Baskin Cathcart of Camden, South Carolina; and grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
