John W. Buck

John Buck was born on March 18, 1784 in Northumberland or Mifflin County, Pennsylvania to Dr. Henry Buck and Rachel Steel/Steele. His father died in 1805 and sometime after 1817, he, his mother and his siblings moved to Ohio. He was raised strictly in the Presbyterian faith, but became convinced of the Friends' principles, and joined that society. He met Miriam Lamborn, also a member of the Friends' and they were married at what then was called the Friends' Meeting House at what was then called Springfield (now Damascus), performed by the beautiful and simple ceremony used by the Friends. John and Miriam settled in Columbiana County, Ohio, when it was but a wilderness, and cleared off a farm where they lived until their death.

John Buck was my father's grandfather. He died two years before Homer Buck was born, but his sisters remembered him well. All I remember is hearing Aunt Ida tell, is that he had beautiful thick black hair that he allowed the girls to brush. My aunts Ida, Gertrude and Orcellia were all very fond of their grandfather John Buck.
