DOUGHERTY LOSES PIONEER WOMAN PASSING OF MOTHER OF TEN IS CAUSE OF GRIEF
Many Attend Funeral: The death of Mrs. Thomas Kelsh cast a pall of sorrow over Dougherty that has not yet lifted. But her life has been such that she will not be forgotten by those who knew her, her charity and kindly service knew no bounds, and her hospitality brought to her and held for her a host of friends.
For the last few years Mrs. Kelsh has been confined to her home by illness, but even then her thoughtfulness for others died not fail.
Miss Kathryn Mulligan was born in Princeton, Wis. in 1867 and when 10 years of age moved to Dougherty with her parents. There she grew to young womanhood and taught for several years in the schools of Cerro Gordo County.
Married in 1889.
In 1889 she was married to Thomas Kelsh and they moved into the farm home in which Mrs. Kelsh spent the remainder of her life.
Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kelsh, all of whom survive their mother, and all were at the home at the time of her death.
The children are Mrs. David Campbell of Rockwell; Miss Florence of Denver, Colo.; Matt of Columbia College, Dubuque; Rose, Evelyn, Viola, Bernadine, George and Edmund of Dougherty.
Beside her husband and family, she leaves a sister, Mrs. William Hogan of Mason City and James Mulligan of Minneapolis.
For many years, Mrs. Kelsh had been a member of the Catholic Lady Foresters, all of whom attended the funeral. On Thursday morning the body was taken to St. Patrick's church at Dougherty where Requiem high mass was celebrated by Father Schmidt. Father Convery was deacon, Father Malone sub-deacon and Father Harrigan master of ceremonies. Father Convery preached the sermon and paid a fitting tribute to the life of Mrs. Kelsh.
The pallbearers were William Reed, Thomas McManus, John McGharren, Steve Burke, P. Boyle and D. Dougherty.
Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery.
