Brown was hunting wild plums with two small boys. On the return trip home, he discovered the creek was on a rise and took the younger boy on his back to swim across. The stream was too swift, and he was swept under by the current. The older boy, 14, rescued his younger companion and swam through two smaller creeks to give the alarm. Brown was married about six months ago and is survived by his widow. Body was taken to Munday for burial.
