Betty Matthews Sanders 86, of Davidson County passed away on September 17, 2015 at Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington.

She was born on August 28, 1929 in Kernersville N.C. a daughter to the late James Garfield Matthews and Bertha Landreth Matthews.

Betty retired from Western Electric which later became AT&T in 1988. She was beloved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death her husband John Ward Sanders on September 10, 1982; her siblings, Odell Matthews, Iris Beeson, Guy Matthews, Maxine Hicks, Coy Matthews, George Hugh Matthews, Edna Berrier, and Curney Matthews; and “Special” son-in-law, Erle Smith.

Surviving are her children, Sharon Matthews Stone (Trinity, NC), Debra Sanders Younts (Terry) (Statesville, NC), and John Patrick Sanders (San Diego, CA); grandchildren, Deedee Smith, Matthew Smith (Ashley), and Jeremy Younts (Jennifer); step-grandchildren, Amanda Younts Davidson (Tapia) and James Younts (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Collin Smith, Grace Younts, and Baby Younts (due in March 2016); step-great-grandchildren, Lily, Jack, Jacob, and Noah Davidson, Bode, Bella and Cale Younts; siblings, Anna Matthews Wall, Edith Matthews Rice, Edward Matthews, and Terry Matthews; and uncle, Ralph Landreth of Walkertown. Also surviving is a Special Friend, Joanne Jordan Pegram of Colfax, NC.
