Doris Marie Swank Adolphsen was the oldest of four daughters and two sons born April 20, 1912 in Ringgold County, Iowa to Walter Swank and Fern Laird Swank. Doris grew up attending rural school and graduated from the Shannon City High School with the Class of 1929. Aspiring to teach school she attended an extension of Iowa State Teachers College and taught four terms of rural school.

During this time, she met a young farmer, Alfred A. "Lefty" Adolphsen, and they were married April 20, 1933 at the United Methodist Parsonage in Creston, Iowa. In 1936, Doris and Lefty moved to a farm south of Lenox where they lived until 1962 when they moved into Lenox. They enjoyed Lefty's participation in Trap Shooting events in Arizona
and Nevada for many years. They also had several overseas adventures visiting Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti, along with visiting many of our 50 states. They made many friends throughout their travels and this was something that brought them great joy. Their home was always open to friends and family. In 1983, they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary surrounded by friends and family. The many years of illness took its toll on Lefty and he passed away on September 27, 1988.

Although they were never able to have children of their own, Doris' friends and relatives were an inspiration to her, she always had a deep concern for them, being especially close to her nieces and nephews. Doris was a long time member and faithful attendant of the Lenox United Methodist Church, the Mayflower Club, Jolly Neighbor's Club and V.I.C. and U.M.W.

Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Hazel Lee of Waterloo, Iowa; and Eva Lindgren an husband Charles of Lakewood, Colorado; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding Doris in death were her parents, Walter and Fern; her husband Lefty; two brothers, Earl Swank and Byrle Swank; and a sister, Helen Weeda.
