Peter and wife Elizabeth, were parents of nine children who were named in his will which was executed 8 September 1827 and was proved in 1832. With the exception of Abraham, it is likely all of the children were born in Monongalia County, Virginia.

Peter Hess served in the North Guard as a prison guard under the command of Col. G Pennington in York County, Pa. in 1778. He is listed on three different muster rolls relating to the Associators and Militia of the County of York, PA.

Peter Hess I sWill In the name of God Amen, I Peter Hess Senor of the County of Monongalia and Commonwealth of Virginia in Perfect health of Body and of Perfect mind and of mind and memory thanks-be given unto God calling unto mInd mortality of my body and knowing that is apPointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that give it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in Decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my children nothing Doubting But as the general Reserrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate. Wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. first I give and bequeath to Elizabeth my dearly beloved wife all my Real estate together with all my stock and all my house hould Property as long as she lives then after her Natural life also her Natural life I give and bequeath all together all my estate unto my dear Beloved Children to be egUllt Devided Between them all as they are all liveing to hem selves and I have wonce made them an devide of my Estate as they wint to the~ selves equally so I request them all to be of my last Devide the children of my son Abraham Hess to have one eqal share of my estate as one of the rest of my children to be devided eqully among them all Jeremia Hess my son Peter Hess my son Bolser Hess my son John Hess my son Thomas Hess my son Catherine Smith my daughter William Hess my son, Elizabeth Barb my daughter all the rest of my Property to be equally divided amongst my dear beloved children above named This to be my last will and testiment to my above named Children willed and Bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, This eighth day of September in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven.
