Bakery Truckman Dies After Crash

Albert V. Coufal, 38, of 556 Oakwood Ave., died Saturday night in St. Joseph’s Hospital of injuries suffered Thursday when his truck smashed into a parked tractor-trailer near Central Square.

Police said Mr. Coufal’s light bakery truck skidded on ice in a heavy fog. His truck was demolished and he was pinned in the wreckage.

An employe of the Cortland Baking Co., Mr. Coufal was a member of Furman Street Methodist Church and was a committeeman for the Boy Scout troop of the church.

He was a life resident of Syracuse and a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Harriet Craver Coufal; six sons, Richard, Gary, Geoffrey, Russell, Mark and Leslie; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coufal; and two brothers, Harold and James; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Frasier Funeral Home, the Rev. Barber L. Waters officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at the funeral home, 1217 N. Salina St.
