Bernice D. Baer, age 86, of Manitowoc, passed away from many years of health problems, congestive heart failure and dementia, on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Harmony West Assisted Living, Manitowoc with her family by her side.

Bernice was born July 21, 1928 in Hankinson, North Dakota, daughter of the late John and Della (Kube) Scheller. She graduated from St. Francis High School, N.D., with the class of 1946. Bernice then came to St. Nazianz with 2 good friends where she met her husband Art. They were married on August 7, 1948. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1999. Bernice and Art farmed for 45 years until their retirement in 1993 and moved to Manitowoc where they enjoyed their family and grandchildren. She was employed at River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center and later was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul. Bernice was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Women's Catholic Order of Foresters and the Catholic Knights. She was a hard working person and very religious.

Survivors include her children and their spouses: John & Marcia Baer, Deland, FL; Sandy & John McCarthy, Reedsville; Leon & Julie Baer, Reedsville; nine grandchildren: Eric (Holly) Baer, Crystal (Jake) Bellenbaun, Adam Baer, Casey (Tim) Hein, Rebecca (Matt) Wagner, Theresa (Joshua) Redo, Brittany McCarthy (fiancé Austin McCulley), Ryan Baer (fiancee Ashlee Skarda), Amanda Baer; six great grandchildren: Davis, Jade & Peyton Hein, Max Wagner, Kiera Wagner and Reed Bellenbaun; two sisters-in-law: Jean Scheller, MN; Barbara Scheller, N.D. Bernice is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law: John & Julia Baer; three brothers and one sister-in-law: Bernard Scheller, Ambrose Scheller, Arnold & Beverly Scheller; and two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: James & Peggy Baer; Ione & Norbert Rausch.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall - 1114 S. 21st Street, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Beaudry. Emtombment will take place at Calvary Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc.

The Family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the church from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting the Baer family with funeral arrangements.

The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Mary Keil and Rosalie Lutterman for the friendship and kind gestures you gave their mother. Also to Jane Anderson from Holy Family Memorial Homecare for all the TLC and guidance through this difficult journey. To the staffs of HFM doctors, nurses and hospice as well as the staff of Harmony West a special Thank You for the care and kindness given to Mother and our family.
