The family left their home near Gove City, Gove County, Kansas, and went to Washington state with a wagon train about 1905, and settled at Castle Rock, in Cowlitz County.
Dora died at Castle Rock in 1909, and is buried there. George and his four young children returned to Gove County, Kansas. They “hopped" a box car. He would hop off and run to nearby stores to get something to eat for the children, and Daisy (about 13 years old) would mother the children. When they arrived back in Kansas, the relatives helped out with the children.
