One of approximately 350 on board the S.S. Almeda Star all of who were killed on the night of January 17, 1941 when the passenger and refrigerated cargo vessel was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-96 about 217 NM WNW of Scolpaig, North Uist, Scotland on route from Liverpool, England to the River Plate, South America.

Son of Gordon Grace Mills Brookes and Elizabeth Margaret Brookes, of Combe Martin, Devon. Died aged 27 years.
