Beverley Randolph Wellford of Irvington, Lancaster County, Virginia, died Saturday, September 5, 2015. Mr. Wellford was born June 22, 1928, in Woodbury, New Jersey, the sixth child of John Harrison Wellford and Marion Hendrickson Wellford. He attended Wilmington Friends School, Avon Old Farms School, and graduated from Woodberry Forest School in 1947. Mr. Wellford graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1951. At the University, he was a member of Delta Psi, St. Anthony Hall. Mr. Wellford married Joyce Ellin Moale Walmsley on September 6, 1952 at Immanuel Episcopal Church, Wilmington, Delaware. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Wellford thereafter resided in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Michigan and then again in Delaware until 1982. While residing in Wilmington, Delaware, Mr. and Mrs. Wellford were communicants of Christ Church, Christiana Hundred. Mr. Wellford was employed by E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. for 15 years. Thereafter, from 1968 through 1987, Mr. Wellford worked in the investment banking and private investments industry, concluding this career with the Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, Toronto, Canada, as Director of Private Placements. In 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Wellford moved to Warsaw, Richmond County, Virginia and resided at Sabine Hall Farm until 2004. In Warsaw, Mr. and Mrs. Wellford were communicants of St. John's Episcopal Church. After leaving ManuLife in 1987, Mr. Wellford worked for several years as a real estate agent in the Northern Neck of Virginia before retiring. Mr. Wellford enjoyed hunting, sailing and playing tennis, among other pursuits. He also was passionate about genealogy, Virginia history and historic preservation and volunteered with various groups, including Preservation Virginia (APVA). Mr. And Mrs. Wellford moved to Lancaster County, Virginia in 2004, residing first in Hills Quarter and then at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury. While residing in Lancaster County, Mr. and Mrs. Wellford were communicants of Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock, Virginia. Mr. Wellford was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Walmsley Wellford. They are survived by their children, Bede Walmsley Wellford and his wife, Leigh Breidenbach, Beverley Randolph Wellford, Jr., and Ellin Wellford Grant and her husband, Michael Leigh Grant; their grandchildren, Jan Harrison Wellford and his wife, Megan McCourt Wellford, Katherine Steele Wellford Seidman and her husband, Daniel Elan Seidman, Rachel Hollingsworth Wellford and Emma Randolph Grant; and their great-grandchildren, Finn Bernard Wellford, Matilda Mary Wellford, Jacob Donald Seidman, and Corina Joyce Seidman, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. An internment of ashes for family will be held Saturday, September 26 at 1 pm at Historic Christ Church, Weems, Virginia. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 26, at 2 pm at Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock, Virginia, with a reception to follow in Grace House at the Church.
