Lavilla M. Barry passed away peacefully March 31, 2012, at the age of 86. Loving wife of Thomas B. Barry, twin sister of Laveta Pfieff of Burlington, Iowa and sister of Shirley Brown of Monmouth, Illinois. She is also survived by 3 nieces, 2 great nieces, 2 great nephews and their families. She was born at home in Denmark, Iowa, December 27, 1925 to Graydon and Marjorie Siegrist. Lavilla served 4 years in the U.S. Air force, stationed in England 1952-56. She toured throughout Europe and the Mediterranean before returning to the U.S. where she settled in San Francisco. She was a member of Grace Cathedral since 1956 where she was president of the Carillon Club and active with Seniors with Grace. She and Thomas met at Grace Cathedral where they married in 1968. Lavilla was head of the Transportation Department at Bechtel Corporation, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Coastside Women's Club since 1986, the Investment Club, and the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club. She was an avid supporter of the Peninsula Symphony and served on the board of directors of the Klein International Violin Competition, hosting their board dinners and helping facilitate their annual competition. She hosted 25 young competitors from around the world in their home. She always cared for others with her radiant smile, a kind word, a hug or simply an attentive ear. She loved animals, and after losing her beloved dog, Betsy, she took care of her friends' animals while they were away.
