William was the son of William C. Moore and Ollyn C. Moore, dear brother of Wayne M. Moore and Carolyn Moore of Waverly Tennessee. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on July 22 1968 and arrived in Vietnam where he was assigned for duty and served with Company K, BLT (Battalion Landing Team) 3/26, 9th MAB, FMFPac.

Upon completion of Operation BOLD MARINER, on February 10 the BLT was deployed by helicopter landing in the "Arizona Territory" in Quang Nam Province and began to participate in Operation TAYLOR COMMON.

On February 27, during a sweep to for the enemy in the vicinity of the Phu Binh village complex PFC William Moore was killed in action by enemy sniper fire.
