Bernice (Bea) Elmira Abbey, 89, of La Canada Flintridge, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2006.

She was born at Huntington Memorial Hospital on January 22, 1917. Bea attended John Muir Technical High School where she met her husband and sweetheart of 67 years, Frank.

She lived a rich and full life, which included raising two sons, Norman and Steve, and participating in many local activities, which included founding the La Canada Gladiators, organizing the La Canada Memorial Day Parade, and John Muir Tech Alumni events. In 1973 Bea began writing a travel column for the La Canada Valley Sun called "The Roving Turtle", named for their travel trailer, and continued writing the column for over 30 years. Bea particularly loved writing, music, cowboys, and all types of sports, but especially football.

Bea had a deep love for her family and is survived by son Norman (Pat), grandchildren Karen, Craig (Donna), Michael and great grandchild Erin; son Steve (Cheryl), grandchildren Ryan, Jennifer (Christopher), Alison, Matthew and great grandchildren Christian and Kendall; sister Clara Brown and brother David Holmes (Dorothy); many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
