Alice Kathryn Baker, age 78, of Bridgeville, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday Jan. 26, 2016 while a resident at the Genesis Milford Center. She was born April 17, 1937 in Frankford, Delaware, daughter of the late Ruth Evelyn (Bunting) and William Lewis Townsend.

Alice was a graduate of Lord Baltimore High School, in Ocean View, Delaware, class of 1955 and excelled in team sports including basketball and softball. Alice played an active role in school activities including band, chorus, and drama class. As an avid sports enthusiast, her favorite team was the Philadelphia Eagles.

Alice was a member for many years of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #9 in Georgetown. She was a current member of the Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville and also attended Crossroad Community Church.

Alice enjoyed going to the beach, traveling with her late husband, and playing games with her group of local girlfriends. An exceptional cook, she loved making delicious meals for her family. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a fun loving person.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mahlon Clark Baker in 2013.

She is survived by her son, Steve Tyre and his wife Nancy, of Bridgeville; her daughter, Krystal McCoy and her husband Keith, of Bridgeville, two step-sons, Martin and Michael Baker; her granddaughter, Dakota Tyre; her grandson, Trevor Timmons; one step grandson, Matthew Baker; one step great grandson, James Baker; as well as her loving brother, William C. Townsend, of Georgetown, Delaware.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Alice's wonderful caregiver, Jill Short, and to the Genesis Milford Center, for the excellent care she received during the end of her life.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday February 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE where friends may call between 9 - 11 AM prior to the service. Graveside services will be at 3 PM at Saint George's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Clarksville, Delaware.

Flowers are welcome but In lieu of, the family suggests contributions be made to either the Union United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2 North Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933 or the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company, P. O. Box 727, Bridgeville, DE 19933.
