David earned a Bachelor’s degree in Broad Field Science from PAMC and taught High School Science in Walsh, CO, Elkhart, KS, and Guymon OK. While at Elkhart, he developed a successful science fair program and had many students take top honors at the International Science and Engineering Fair. David earned his Master’s degree in Earth Science from East Texas University at Commerce, Texas, in 1968 and taught night courses in Meteorology and Astronomy at PSU. He fulfilled a lifelong dream when he earned his pilot’s license in 1969. David taught Chemistry and Physics at Guymon High School for 20 years and also coached the Academic Team who won the Academic Class II state championship in 1989. He retired in 1995. Mr. Camp produced many budding scientists in his classes, often using colorful imagery such as comparing Fluorine to the prettiest Dallas Cowboy cheerleader and Cesium to Howard Hughes to help explain concepts like electromagnetism. Many of his former students stayed in touch over the years, much to his delight. After retiring, David was elected to the Silver-Haired Legislature in 2000 and helped renovate the Goodwell Hilltoppers Senior Citizens' building. David and Bonnie were also lifetime members of the OPSU Alumni Foundation and were chosen as the honored family in 2006.
