Green-Mountain Freeman (Montpelier, Vermont) 24 Nov 1880, Wednesday page 2
Died in Northfield, November 16, John Averill in the 87th year of his age.
Mr. Averill was born in Westminster, VT., in 1794, and came to Northfield in 1805 with his father Thomas Averill, senior. He has been a citizen of Northfield ever since, and been elected by his fellow townsmen to various offices of trust and responsibility. He married a daughter of Amos Robinson, Esq, one of the pioneer settlers of the town. He was the youngest of four brothers, and the last one to depart, his elder brothers, Amos, Oliver and Jesse having passed on some years since, full of years and well crowned with the honor and esteem of their fellowmen. The death of "Uncle John" leaves but one of a family of ten children-- the mother of Elliott C. Fisk, Esq., of this town. His life companion he also leaves, to wait, just a little while, the summons to join him in that fairer clime, on the "other shore," where partings are unknown.
