Benjamin Irvin Chapman, 82, died July 8, 2015, in Indio, CA. Beloved son, father and grandfather, "Benny" was born in Memphis, TN, on May 25, 1933, to Benjamin and Margaret Strickland Chapman. A US Navy veteran, he served on the aircraft carrier Point Cruz during the Korean Conflict. He married Kathryn Lewis in 1952. He graduated with a BS in Chemistry from CalState Long Beach in 1964. He was an aerospace engineer for various companies during the Apollo program years. He retired from Lockheed Martin Corp. in 1989. From 1977 until their divorce in 1995, he and Kathryn lived in Monroe, UT, where they owned and operated a small fruit orchard. Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patsy and stepfather, William P. Hawkins. Survived by sons, Steven Chapman (Dana) of Bountiful, UT; Scott Chapman of Silver Cliff, CO; and Jonathan Chapman of La Quinta, CA; grandchildren, Jackson Chapman and Lindsay Chapman; his uncle, William Strickland of Oxford, MS; and devoted aunt, June (Strickland) Hester of Bartlett, TN.
