Lyle was born November 1, 1921 in Amboy, MN (Sterling Twp.), the son of Herman and Emma (Bruhns) Voges. He attended the Flat School between Minnesota Lake and Amboy, and the Ridge School of Sterling Township through the 8th grade. After his schooling, he went to work on the farm. Lyle honorably served in the US Army from June 1942 through September 1943, and he received a medical discharge. Following his service, he moved to Delavan, where he began farming. During this time, Lyle drove German prisoners of war from Wells to Delavan, dropping them off to work on area farms. He was united in marriage to Arlene Kunz on January 4, 1942 (36 degrees below zero that day!) at St. John's Lutheran Church at Danville, and to this union 4 children were born. In 1947, he moved to Minnesota Lake and began trucking. In 1952, Lyle started driving school bus. He was a bus driver for the Minnesota Lake School for 43 years.
Lyle is survived by his children: Betty (Chuck) Pagenkopf of Powersite, MO, Donna Manitz of Wells, MN, Paul (Shelly) of Janesville, MN; son-in-law Murlin (Diane) Miller of Rochester, MN; 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; siblings: Carl Voges of Bricelyn, MN, and Audrey Cooper of Mankato, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; daughter, Joyce Miller; son-in-law, Mark Manitz; siblings: Emma Voges, Marie Stuemke, Viola Jacobsen, and Harold Voges.
