Delbert Ray Bennett, 88, of Mitchell, died Monday, July 24, 2006, at his farm near Letcher.

His funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at United Church of Christ in Letcher with the Rev. Gary Swagger officiating.

Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Letcher.

Visitation at Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket.

Delbert Ray Bennett was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Elliott Township to Ray and Winnifred (Morkin) Bennett. He attended the Mayhew and Christopher country schools and Letcher High School.

He married Alma Clyde May 17, 1941, at Mitchell. They farmed west of Letcher then bought a farm northwest of Letcher in 1951. They moved to Mitchell in June 2005.

He served on school boards in Butler and Letcher and was a member of the local and county ASCS committees for many years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Mitchell, Letcher United Church of Christ where he served in various church activities and West Lawn Cemetery care.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Lynn (Jean) Bennett of Sioux Falls, Gayle Bennett of Huron, Carol (Alan) Bender of Volga and Connie (Doug) Farris of Woonsocket; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry; and four siblings, Lois Harrington, Irene Schefsky, Bob and Helen Bennett.
