Stephen Edward Gately, 56, of Fort Smith, died September 2, 2015 in Fort Smith. A fire at the Fort Smith Waste Paper Company claimed the life of Stephen Gately.
He was born September 10, 1958 in Fort Smith to Glenn Edward and Thelda Loree Bowman Gately.

He was the owner/operator of the Fort Smith Waste Paper Company and a member of First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lana Gately of Fort Smith; one daughter, Elizabeth and husband David Kaylor of Greenwood, AR; two sons, Seth and wife Audra Gately of Little Rock, AR., and Spencer Gately of Fort Smith; one sister, Lisa Wedel of Edmond, OK; two brothers, Dr. Stanley Gately of Russellville, AR and Reverend Neil Gately of Overland Park, KS; and two grandchildren who were the light of his life, Sage and Stella Gately.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Thelda Gately; one sister, Nancy Gately; and one brother, Michael Gately.

Memorial service will be Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the Roebuck Chapel of First United Methodist Church and his cremains will be entombed in the First United Methodist Church Columbarium all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
