Their son, Elmwood Clifton, was born in 1859, in Jefferson, Henry, Iowa. He passed away in October, 1860, due to whooping cough.
Laura and Thomas' second child was Ida Cornelia Clifton. The family was listed in the 1860 census where Thomas was a farmer, real estate value was $2500 with personal assets of $200.
Thomas enlisted in the Civil War August, 14, 1862.
According to Thomas' obituary, there was another child and the marriage ended in separation. Laura apparently went to California where she passed away. Elijah and Phoebe Noble took Ida to live with them while her father was at war.
There is a record that she was buried December 7, 1863, in Tier 10 Grave 39 Plot Pub NG, but wasn't able to figure out what cemetery. The Funeral Home listed was N. Gray & Co. Apparently the cemetery was closed in 1946 and the unclaimed bodies were buried in a community vault at Cypress Lawn in the Laurel Hills section.
