"Mrs. Del Rey McDowell, widow of Allen J. McDowell of the Del Rey Apartments, 531 Ninth Street, died in St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis yesterday afternoon at 5:15 o'clock. Mrs. McDowell, who was visiting in the home of her sister, Mrs. Earl F. Nelson, was taken to the hospital yesterday morning.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Grace Episcopal Church under the direction of the Meinershagen Funeral Home. The Rev. Stuart C. Cowles will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the family lot in Edgewood Cemetery.
Mrs. McDowell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Jones, was born March 11, 1884 at Chillicothe. She was married to Allen J. McDowell October 21, 1909.
Surviving are two sons, Sam McDowell of Denver, Colo., and Richard McDowell of Maryville; three granddaughters, Joan Rey McDowell, Judith McDowell and Janet McDowell of Maryville; three sisters, Mrs. E. F. Nelson of St. Louis, Mrs. J. T. Gibbs of Washington, Mo., and Mrs. A. D. Elkins of University City; and one brother, C. M. Jones of Washington, D.C. Mrs. Alvin Cole and Charles A. Adams are cousins of Mrs. McDowell. She was preceded in death by her husband on September 26, 1932; her parents; one brother, Edgar Jones; and a sister, Miss Irma Jones.
Mrs. McDowell, who had resided in Chillicothe her entire life, was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Chapter T of P.E.O., Serosis, Ye Ole Timers and the Colonial Clubs. Mrs. McDowell was a prominent citizen of Chillicothe and until her health failed, was active in church, civic and social work in Chillicothe." The Chillicothe Constitution Tribune, April 14, 1955
