Cecil was the son of William L. Compton and Ida T. Belcher. He married Laura Alice (Vance) Ball Sparks Wilson.

Funeral services for Cecil Edward Compton, 77, of Box 83, Falls Mills, who was found dead near his home Wednesday, December 15, after suffering an apparent heart attack, were conducted Saturday, December 18, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Chapel in Bluewell, WV. Rev. Ralph Kidd officiated the services. Born at Falls Mills on April 20, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Alice Compton, and two brothers. He was a life-long resident of Falls Mills and was a self-employed farmer and member of Falls Mills United Methodist Church. Survivors include one step-daughter, Mrs. Dale Phelps of Hobart, IN; and several step-grandchildren. Pallbearers: Raymond Tabor, Anthony Tabor, Douglas Riffe, Robert Lawson, Mervin Anderson and Walter Martin Jr.
