S.M. BASSETT DEAD.
S.M. Bassett, aged 85 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Strope, northwest of Polo, on Wednesday, February 15, 1911, of paralysis. The funeral services were held at ten o'clock on Friday morning in the South Methodist church at Polo and the remains were taken to Mirabile for interment beside his wife who preceded him in death seven years.
Mr. Bassett was a native of Ohio, having moved from Coshocton county to Missouri about twenty-nine years ago and located on a farm near Mirabile where he remained until six years ago when he went to make his home with his daughter near Polo.
He had been a Mason for fifty-nine years and the funeral services were under the auspices of the Polo lodge A.F. & A.M. of which he was a member at the time of his death. It was the third stroke of paralysis which he had which caused his death and a peculiar coincident is that his death occurred on the 61st anniversary of his wedding day.
Mr. Bassett is survived by eight children-Mrs. Dwight Dunn, of this place; Mrs. Susan Platt, of Kansas City; Mrs. Ella Thompson, of Kingston; Mrs. Myrtle Carr, of Washington; Mrs. Hattie Strope, of Polo; Fort Bassett, of Mirabile; Garrett Bassett, of Kingston; George Bassett, of Montana.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Dwight Dunn, of this place; George Bassett, of Montana; a nephew, John Bassett and wife, of Plainsville, Ohio; and a grandson, John Platt and wife, of Kansas City.
