Richard Joseph Fisher, age 29, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of August 29, 2015.

Richard leaves behind many members of his loving family including his precious daughters Payton Fisher (11 years) and Gracie Fisher (3 years); his mother, Cheryl (DeBartolo) Young and step-father, Rick Young; four brothers Matthew Fisher, Christopher Fisher, Ryan Young, and Bradley Young; two sisters Amanda Rasmussen and Crystal Schlaefle. Grandmother, Susan DeBartolo; uncles Jeff (Sherry) DeBartolo and Richard (Holly) DeBartolo. Richard also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Richard proudly served his country for nearly a decade as Non-Commissioned Officer in the Iowa Army National Guard. Richard was most recently employed as an IT Recruiter for the Aureus Group in Omaha, Nebraska.

When Richard wasn't serving his country he spent his time with his loving daughters, Payton and Gracie. He holds the title for being undefeated in Disney's "Name That Tune" and was able to braid hair with the best of them. Payton and Richard spent a lot of time fishing, cooking, and singing together. Gracie's smile would light up the room when her daddy walked through the door. Though Richard would often joke about wanting a boy, anyone that knew him knows that those little girls had his heart from the beginning, and his love for them will live in them for the rest of their lives. In the words of Payton "He was a really great dad. The kind of dad that loves you and makes you laugh."

Richard was very well-liked and a friend to many. A life full of charisma and charm. He is best known for his contagious smile and quick-witted-never-ending humor. He had a profound love of all kinds of music. Richard's life was filled with so many great moments - big and small. Defining moments. Life-changing moments. He was committed to his friends and was always there with a hug and an often unsolicited joke. His sense of humor was unrivaled. Richard's friends were lifelong. There are some very special relationships that were made during his short journey and his life would not have been the same without these wonderful people.

Richard's love for his beautiful daughters was unparalleled and his love for his brothers was second to none. Richard and his brothers shared a bond that cannot be quantified and words fail to truly express their love and respect for each other. Richard also shared a special bond with his uncles, Jeff and Richard, who were close to Richard's heart.

Richard has been reunited with father Joseph Fisher, his grandfather Gerald DeBartolo, and his sister Andrea Fisher where he will live with them in their forever home.

Richard touched many lives and the memories we all have will last forever. And as Richard would say, "I'm kind of a big deal."

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Interment with military honors will precede the service at 9:30 a.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Richard's family will greet friends during visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3 at Iles Westover Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a fund established for Richard's children, Payton and Gracie, in care of Christopher Fisher.

Whispers from Heaven

They say that life is fleeting, I know that this is true. I left this world so quickly with no goodbye to you.

I know how much you miss me, your tears fall ever light. The pillow where you lay your head is wet with them at night.

I know your heart is hurting. The words we left, unsaid. I love you's left unspoken, are spinning in your head.

The strength that I have carried, that served to make you whole. Remains to make you stronger within your grieving soul.

For you see, while you were weeping on the day I passed away, at the gravesite near the flowers where my loved ones knelt to pray.

An angel came to see me; she took me by the hand. She led me to a kingdom in a very distant land.

As I look down from Heaven, and see you standing there. Your heart so ever burdened with more weight than it can bear.

I long to bring you comfort, I long to give you peace. I long to hold you closely, cause all your tears to cease.

The joy I've found in Heaven, goes far beyond compare. The love that's so elusive, can be found here everywhere.

The light is softly shining, there's no storm clouds here or rain. There's no tear drops found in heaven, there's no suffering, there's no pain.

You needn't be so troubled, stay close to God and pray. That someday we'll be together, one bright and glorious day.

So my love, you shouldn't question, my dear you need not cry. I've gone to be with Jesus, I really didn't die.
