Mary L. (Casey) Vukelich, 97, of Chisholm, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1917, the daughter of Angelo and Frances Krainik. In her younger days, she was a den mother and a Brownie leader. She had been an active member of the Chisholm Chapter 876 of the Women of the Moose and received the highest honor, installed in the College of Regents at Mooseheart, Ill. She was also active in the SNPJ Lodge 322, as president and trustee. She was a member of the Chisholm Senior Citizens Club. She was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chisholm.
Mary worked for Cluett & Peabody and Allen Manufacturing Company of Chisholm until her retirement. In recent years, Mary lived at Lincoln Center and enjoyed meeting staff and residents and made many special friends. Mary loved crafts and knitted and crocheted many items for her children and grandchildren. She loved to read, play yahtzee and cribbage with family, listen to polka music, dance, watch sports on TV and make potica and strudel to share with family and friends. Mary liked to travel and in her later years thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Slovenia to visit her cousins.
She is survived by her four sons: Edward (Claudia), Robert (Rebecca), Patrick (Helen), and Jim (Kyong Sun); son-in-law, Alfio Cini; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a dear niece and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Everett Casey; second husband, John Vukelich and his daughter and Mary's close friend, Karen Myers; daughter, Maryann (Casey) Cini; brother, Edward Krainik; sister, Bertha Maturi; sister, Frances Krainik; and two infant sisters.
