Catharine (Strouse) Schopf, daughter of Philip and Sarah Strouse, was born in Berks county, Penn., Nov. 28, 1841.

In the spring of 1859 she came to Wayne county, Ind., to see her brother, with whom she made her home for more than a year. While here she met Elias Schop, with whom she united in marriage on Nov. 15, 1860. This union was blessed with ten children, four boys and six girls. All survive.

In 1863 she with her husband came to DeKalb county, where they purchased an eighty acre farm. Here they lived happily together until the death of Mr. Schopf, Jan. 31, 1911. Since that time she has remained on the farm.

For the last two years she has been failing in health, but because of her ambitious nature she clung to the duties of the household until three weeks ago, when she laid down her work. On last Saturday the message dashed over the wires for the children to return as it was seen the end was approaching. On Wednesday morning, May 14, 1919, with all the children by her side, excepting Philip, the death angel called and she went to meet her Maker at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 16 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure the ten children, Boston, Sylvester and Preston, who are yet at home, Philip of Mississippi, Savana Smith of Pittsford, Mich., Ella Lung and Sarah Cornell of Butler township, Leah Heitz of Tippecanoe, Anice Fitch of Garrett, and Almedia Borringer of San Francisco, Cal., eighteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one sister in Berks county, Pa., and other relatives and friends.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her early teens, but after her marriage she with her husband united with the Reformed Mennonite church.

Religiously she was very quiet, but she had a life back of all this that we cannot doubt her sincerity in doing right. A few days before she died, in talking to her of the life beyond and as to her faith in Christ, she said: "My faith is in Jesus. I am not fearing death. I am ready to go. I am hoping to meet you there."
