TUPELO – Paul R. Barnes Sr., of Tupelo, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the North Miss Medical Center. He was born May 29, 1917, in Philadelphia to the late William Thomas Barnes and Ruby May Herrington Barnes. He moved to Verona in 1954 while working for Paul Anthony Construction. He worked bridge and road construction most of his adult life. He retired from Stacks Construction of Ashland. He was an avid gardener and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of the Verona United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors with the Rev. Don Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park in Verona.

Survivors include one brother, Fletcher Earl Barnes of Mobile, Ala.; two sons, Jerry G. Barnes and wife, Sandra, of Newnan, Ga., and Paul R. Barnes Jr. and wife, Jean, of Luling, La.; three grandchildren, Brian, Barnes, Leigh-Anna Butler and Scott Barnes; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Elizabeth Oden Hardage and Dewdrop Hutchins; two brothers, James Roy Barnes and Victory Brown Barnes.

Pallbearers will be Don Stewart, Edwin Mattox, John Ray Beasley, Dave Allen, Clifton Hodges and Earl Gates. Honorary pallbearer will be Tony Clark.
