CLAUD CHADWICK DROWNED.

Off Roanoke Marshes Monday Night
Buried in New Berne Yesterday.

Monday night, August 12th, while the schooner Ivy Blade of this city was anchored at Roanoke Marshes, Mr. Claud Chadwick of the Straits, one of the crew, fell overboard and was drowned.

We learn that in his life Mr. Chadwick had been subject to fits and the supposition is that his drowning was caused by one coming on him.

Mr. Chadwick was 28 years old in March, and was a nephew of Mrs. Dan’l Roberts of New Berne. He was a good hearted young man and had numbers of friends. This was his first trip on the Ivy Blade.

The deceased was buried in New Berne. Rev. A. D. Betts, D. D., officiating, on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Thomas Chadwick who was drowned about two months ago in Mobile and Mr. John Chadwick who was accidently killed on a derrick in Savannah last summer were two brothers, also from the Straits, and they were cousins of the young man whose tragic end we now chronicle.
