Bill Fette 1942 - 2015
Bill Fette was called home on August 23, 2015 after his long and courageous battle with cancer. Bill Harlan Fette was born May 11, 1942 in Spring, Texas to Ervin and Helen Fette. Bill moved to Kilgore, Texas at a young age and graduated from Kilgore High School as well as Kilgore Junior College. After receiving his degree, he was commissioned in the United States Navy to pursue a career in aviation. While attending Naval flight school in Pensacola, he met the love of his life, Debbie, and they were married August 12, 1967. During Bill's active duty military career, he served as an aerobatic flight instructor, served in the Vietnam War, and served as the personal crew for the Commander of the Pacific Fleet's DC-6 aircraft. Bill eventually left active duty service to pursue a commercial aviation career, but remained in the Navy Reserves and retired as a Commander with 20 years of service to his country. Bill relocated his family to Dallas/Ft. Worth in 1973 and began his commercial flying career. Bill flew a multitude of aircraft for several airlines over a 29 year career before retiring as an international Captain with American Airlines in 2002. After retiring from aviation, Bill and Debbie moved to Pensacola where he enjoyed owning and operating a charter fishing business and focusing on building their retirement home. Bill was a generous and kind soul with a quick witted, great sense of humor. Bill always loved life to the fullest, and was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and uncle who dearly loved his family. Bill is predeceased by his parents Ervin and Helen Fette of Kilgore, TX. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Debbie; daughter, Kelli Redman of Pensacola, FL; son, Kevin (Tracie) of Cameron, NC; grandchildren, Drew, Zackary, Hannah, Raegan and Hudson; brothers, Robert of LaVeta, CO, Joe (Pat) of Kilgore, TX; and sister, Linda (Ken) of Palestine, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit at 10650 Gulf Beach Highway on Saturday, August 29 with the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Bill's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, of which he was a strong supporter.
