Walter served his country during WWI. His draft registration was filed 6-5-1918 and the war was over 11-11-1919 so he served less than 6 months. He returned home and worked as a laborer for his mother on Route 2, Dale, OK. He married Florence Miles, 10-5-1919 in Shawnee and died in Dale, OK of a stroke at 6pm, August 23, 1921. He was only 24 years old.

Service was by Gaskill Funeral Home with burial in Mission Hill Cemetery, known today as Tecumseh Cemetery.
