Obituary:
FRANK HENRY HOFFMAN, 86, of 106 Spruce Ave., died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, July 21, 1980, in Altoona Hospital, following an extended illness. Known as Dick, Mr. Hoffman retired as gang foreman in the paint shop of the Pennsylvania Railroad in October 1957, after 44 years' service. He was born Aug. 22, 1893, In Petersburg, the son of Henry and Anna (Graffius) Hoffman, and July 2, 1920, in Petersburg, married Sylvia E. Anderson. Surviving are his wife, four children, Donald M. and Mrs. Marie Turner of Altoona, Mrs. Cleo Etnier of Petersburg and Mrs. Shirley M. Blanchard of East Freedom; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Jane Dixon of Petersburg. Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Fourth Lutheran Church and Daniel Sheetz Sunday School class. He was an Army veteran of World War I, serving as a supply sergeant in Battery E in the Third Field Artillery of the Army. He was a charter member of the Cloyd K. Davis Post, VFW, Petersburg. He was a 1912 graduate of Petersburg Vocation High School and a 1920 graduate of Zeth Business College. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home.
