Melinda Ann Hoffman, Petersburg's Oldest Resident Passes Away
Melinda Ann Hoffman, Petersburg's oldest resident, passed away at her home at that place on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. after an illness of two years from complications due to advanced age. She was aged 90 years, 5 months and 13 days. She was the daughter of Mary McElroy and Charles Morrow and was born near Alexandria on April 1, 1840. Her husband, John H. Hoffman, died 15 years ago. She possessed a beautiful Christian character and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Petersburg. She is survived by one daughter and one son: Jane E. Hoffman, Charles L. Hoffman, both of Petersburg; also by two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Mary Houseman, Alexandria, Mrs. Hannah Weller, Martha Furnace, Pa., William Morrow, Altoona, and Scott Morrow, Mountaindale, Pa. The funeral service will be held in the Lutheran Church in Petersburg on Wednesday, September 17, at 2:30 o'clock p.m. conducted by her pastor, Rev. Charles Strong. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
