Mary L Beasley was the daughter of Josiah Beasley and Elizabeth Tarpley. She was born in Wilson county Tennessee and on March 4, 1848 she married Richard C Locke who was the brother of my 3rd great grandmother Martha Ann Locke McKinney. They had 5 children, William W, John, Richard Alexander, Mary Frances Elizabeth, and Charles C. Unfortunately Richard died October 5, 1853 leaving Mary alone to raise her children, as Josiah and Elizabeth had removed by 1850 to Muhlenberg county Kentucky. At some point she met James D Sullivan, and the couple married December 19, 1858 and to the union was born 3 more daughters, Cornelia Caroline, Emma J and Sarah James, named for her father. Tragedy strikes Mary again with the death of James before the 1870 census. She is alone in Wilson county as Josiah and Elizabeth had removed to Muhlenberg county Kentucky shortly before the 1850 census was taken. Mary did what she had to do and by the 1870 census she had joined her mother in Kentucky. Josiah had died leaving Elizabeth a widow, but William W, Mary's oldest child was staying with his grandmother and an uncle, helping with the farming. Mary remained the rest of her life in Muhlenberg county Kentucky and is buried there in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery near Greenville, Kentucky. Written by Rita Collvins Mayfield
