Theron Rice Rolston was born May 27, 1902 in the manse of the Hebron Presbyterian Church in Hebron, Augusta County, Virginia, the fourth of six children to born to the Rev. Holmes Rolston and Jacqueline Campbell. He was named after Holmes' close and dear friend, Theron H. Rice (1867-1922).
